Let me tell you that going to Queens Road or to Queens Road West makes a world of a difference when I suddenly realize that google maps has sent me to the wrong address and that I’m gonna be late for my studio visit with Nomera Jewellery. 15 minutes later and after calling Nomera, I’m finally at her studio door, sweating profusely due to my run in the 90F (32C) Hong Kong humid weather. And let me tell you it was worth it.

Nomera was born in the UK and has lived in many different countries like Dubai, Kuwait and Beijing before settling in Hong Kong. In a former life she was a fashion designer but in 2013 she decided to change her path and launch a new career in jewelry design and that’s how Nomera Jewellery was born.

It’s delightful to hear Nomera describe with passion and enthusiasm her designs and ideas. Even though she just started her jewelry business, she has the background and expertise of the fashion industry and she sounds like a go getter, with a very clear idea of where she wants her line to be in the near future! Well, lucky us because she has beautiful pieces with a modern twist, inspired by delicate geometric designs with an arabian inspiration.

As Nomera shows me her impressive sketch book, (which by the way, is absolutely lovely and should be published as a book) she shows me as well some of her prototypes. I am truly impressed when she opens a box of cardboard designs that she has cut and carved to test some her design ideas. Some of this pieces are so laborious that they should be worn as jewelry as well. There is a special attention to detail and a very well thought design process. I’m still in awe with the cardboard jewels, they’re just perfect! In the meantime, the Nomera Jewellery website is still under construction, but you can reach Nomera directly if you want to buy some of her jewelry or make a bespoke piece.

I look forward to see Nomera’s growth and success in the future and wait impatiently to see more of her beautiful creations. Next time I pass by Hong Kong, I’ll make sure to invite myself to drop by and amaze myself with more gorgeous designs. Thanks Nomera for a wonderful studio visit.
